Society Confidential: Suzi Quatro - down but not out

When rocker Suzi Quatro fell while disembarking from a plane in Kiev, Ukraine, breaking her wrist and right kneecap, that put the kibosh on her appearance at the Detroit Music Awards April 27 and a much-anticipated musical reunion with her sisters Patti and Nancy as their 1960-70s groups, the Pleasure Seekers and Cradle , are honored. Her sisters will still perform, Quatro will tape a video acceptance, and she vows to be there in person next year. "It's not a good thing to fall like that," Quatro told us. "That kind of fall can kill you." She's a jogger and a gym rat, so doctors hope she won't have to have surgery on her knee. "I'm pretty strong, but you don't know how it's going to heal. I had to cancel everything and it goes against every bone in my body!" Quatro also had two British radio documentaries in the works — one on Detroit music, and one on Bob Seger — that had to be postponed. Her roots here run deep; father Art Quatro played in bands around town and was the organist for Detroit Red Wings games (he'd play the theme from "Love Story" when fights broke out). In the '60s, Quatro danced on the WXYZ-TV show "Club 1270," and she learned to play bass listening to Motown's James Jamerson .
The rocker hopes to be mobile enough to zip into her tight black leather jumpsuit ("It still fits!") by June for a Berlin concert date.

I love her
l loved her on happy days back in the 70's
Sometimes, even now when I'm feeling lonely
and beat I drift back in time and I find my feet
down on Mainstreet
